How To Edit Opening Hours on Google and Apple Maps

Remember when you had to walk up to the business’s door to read about their opening hours? Yeah, we do too. Nowadays business listings do a good job of portraying the most crucial information in one little box on the internet, easily accessible to anyone in need.

Now, the business listings do a whole lot more than just showcase the NAP (name, address, and phone number), but that is not our focus in this article. Back to the NAP. How likely are you to visit a business after looking at their business listing and finding out they are closed today? Probably not that likely. What if the business actually was open, the business listing was just not properly updated and you believed it? This happens more than you would think!

In this article, we’ll go through how to edit opening hours in business listings, specifically in Google Business Profiles and Apples Business.

Google

Let’s get started with Google. First, you need to log in to the account that manages the business listing you want to edit. Without access, you won’t be able to do any edits to the profile.

Once logged in, you want to open the “Google Apps” menu in the right upper corner of a new tab. From there you want to locate the Business Profile logo and click it.

From there you are taken to the Business Profile Dashboard. Here you will see the list of businesses you manage and from here you are able to go into the individual profiles and make changes.

Since the new updates in Google, you are only able to do changes in the profiles through Google Search. Previously, you had the option to change the information in the dashboard with a different view and UI.

Select the profile you want to change NAP information in and click the business name, Google will direct you to Search where you will be able to do the edit.

To change the opening hours of your business listing, go to “Edit profile” in your editor panel from Search, scroll down to the section that shows you the opening hours, and open up the section by clicking anywhere in the section. Now go ahead and change your preferred ways of showing your opening hours, Google gives you a few options for this:

Open with main hours

Shows your opening hours at all times.

Open without main hours

Show that the business is open but does not disclose specific opening hours.

Temporarily closed

Use this if your business currently is closed for a longer period but is set to open up again in the future.

Permanently closed

Use this to show that your business no longer exists.

Click the “Open with main hours” and proceed to add your opening hours in the fields that require it. After adding or editing your opening hours, remember to save your changes in the profile.

You are also able to add additional opening hours such as online operating hours, kitchen hours, and takeaway to further communicate the availability to the client.

  1. Log in to your Google account that manages the business profile.
  2. Go to your Business Profile Dashboard and find your business profile.
  3. Open the editor by clicking the  “Edit profile”- button in the Editor panel in Search.
  4. Scroll down to the “Opening hours” section and make your edits.
  5. Save and complete your task.
  6. Optionally, add additional opening hours to further the communication to your customers.

Apple Maps

With the recent update from Apple, you will be able to edit your opening hours in the Business Connector. Start by going to the Apple Business Connect website and logging in with your Apple ID. Once logged in you land on an overview page where your created business listings should show. If you have not made one yet, you can create one in the business connector.

When wanting to edit existing business listings, you can go to the “Locations” through the menu bar on the left, and from there open up your desired location. Once in the profile, you scroll down to “Hours” where you’ll be able to edit the opening hours as well as add special hours for holidays and days when you might have differing opening hours. When clicking the “Special Hours”- button, you get an option to add so-called custom hours, which can help you communicate what time you serve brunch, when the car service is available or when you offer in-store pickup.

  1. Go to Apple Business Connector.
  2. Log in with your Apple ID.
  3. Create a listing or choose an existing one by going to the “Locations” page in the menu on the left.
  4. When editing an existing listing, choose your location and scroll down to “Hours” where you’ll be able to edit your opening and closing hours to your liking.
  5. Optionally, add special hours to communicate when different services are available.
  6. Save and complete.
